The Star, LLC announced this week that Foster + Partners has been brought on to redesign a large office tower planned at 6061 W. Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. The $1-billion project, planned for a two-acre site near Sunset Gower Studios, calls for the construction of a 22-story building featuring 525,000 square feet of offices on its upper floor, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“We have worked with leaders in the creative and tech industries to redefine The Star into a project that both fits perfectly into Hollywood’s urban fabric and captures the evolving workplace,” said Maggie Miracle, the chief executive of The Star, LLC. “The office space seamlessly moves from indoor to outdoor settings with extraordinary collaborative areas and tasteful settings that allow for contemplation and innovation.”

Foster + Partners is taking the reins from MAD Architects, which had designed the original iteration of The Star which was unveiled in 2021. In lieu of the domed structure capped with a terrarium-like space previously envisioned, the new design of The Star is cylindrical in shape, and inlaid with spiraling gardens rising from the street level to a proposed rooftop restaurant.

“Cascading gardens for outdoor working, natural light and ventilation create a healthy and highly productive working environment on Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard,” said Foster + Partners senior partner Patrick Campbell.

The Times reports that construction is set to begin as early as 2026 and be completed by 2029.

While the office sector continues to struggle with stubbornly high vacancy rates, Hollywood has benefitted from a recent resurgence led by entertainment industry companies like Netflix and Paramount, which have leased large new developments near the property.

The tower is the second major project for Foster + Partners in the Los Angeles area, following the $5-billion One Beverly Hills complex now under construction next to the Beverly Hilton.
