With work slated to begin soon at the Melrose Triangle development, the Charles Company will now try its luck with another iconic project on the Sunset Strip.

According to Wehoville, the developer has filed plans with the City of West Hollywood to construct a 19-story hotel tower on the Sunset Strip, next-door to the new Marriott Edition.  Plans for the high-rise structure at 9034 Sunset Boulevard call for 185 guest rooms, 14 apartments, event space and ground-floor commercial uses.  A four-level, 550-car garage would sit beneath the tower.

The subject property is a T-shaped, 1.3-acre lot that runs north-to-south between Sunset Boulevard and Harratt Street.  It is currently improved with a mixture of commercial buildings - including the current headquarters of the Charles Company - and surface parking.

R&A Architecture & Design has been tapped to design the project, which would feature offset, amorphous floor plates that give the building an undulating texture.

Additional details about the project are currently unclear.
