A new affordable housing complex could be coming to Westlake, per a motion from Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell.

The nonprofit Foundation for Afforadable Housing is targeting a .43-acre property at 166 S. Alvarado Street for the development 90 studio and one-bedroom apartments that would cater exclusively to low income and moderate income tenants.  According to the motion from O'Farrell, FFAH is seeking $20-million in state bonds to assist with the aquisition of land and construction of the proposed development, which may be known as Hope on Alvardo.

The project site site, located at the northeast corner of Alvarado and Valley Street, is currently improved with a small medical office building.  The Streamline Moderne structure dates back to the 1940s, according to city records.  The future of the medical building is unclear.
