Just over one month after securing a $37-million construction loan, El Segundo-based developer Welcome Group, Inc. has commenced work on a new AC Hotel by Marriott in Pasadena.

The project, which replaces a surface parking lot at 550-566 E. Colorado Boulevard in the Playhouse District, will eventually consist of a five-story, 194-room hotel with 5,000 square feet of street-fronting commercial uses facing Colorado and a rooftop bar.

The approximately 110,000-square-foot development will have exterior finishes including stone, faux wood, and glass. Plans call for an L-shaped structure with a small parking lot that will be accessible from a rear alley.

While WATG served as the project's entitlement architect, the website of general contractor R.D. Olson Construction now indicates that AXIS/GFA is serving as the hotel's architect of record.

Completion of the AC Hotel is expected in 2025.

The project is the latest in a growing number of outposts for the AC Hotel brand in the Los Angeles area, following a 347-room establishment that recently opened as part of the Fig + Pico development near the Convention Center in Downtown. Welcome Group has previously contributed to the brand's growth, building a similar 180-key AC Hotel in its hometown of El Segundo.
