At its meeting next week, the Anaheim Planning Commission is scheduled to consider a proposal to construct a new Radisson Blu hotel on a vacant lot abutting the 5 Freeway.

The project, located at 1601 S. Anaheim Boulevard, calls for the construction of a 12-story building that would feature 326 guest rooms and a four-level parking structure.  Plans also call for meeting space, a fitness center, a rooftop pool deck, and various food-and-beverage venues.

GBD Architects is designing the hotel, which would stand 155 feet in height.  Renderings portray a boxy mid-rise structure.

The Planning Commission is expected to weigh in on the project's environmental impact report, as well as a conditional use permit to allow for a larger development than would otherwise be permitted.  A staff report from the city's Planning & Building Department recommends that the project receive approval.

The Orange County Business Journal reports that the hotel is being developed by BPM Real Estate Group of Oregon.  The Radisson Blu, an upscale version of the Radisson brand, would be one of only a handful of locations in the United States thus far.
