At a meeting on April 12, the Los Angeles developer Jamison Services, Inc. will offer the Los Angeles City Planning Commission its first glimpse of a proposal to cap a parking garage in Koreatown with apartments.

The project site, located across the street from Metro's Wilshire/Western Station, was developed with a parking structure to serve an adjacent mid-rise office building.  Jamison's proposal calls for building a five-story residential structure atop the existing four-story garage, thereby creating a nine-story building.  The addition would create 132 studio apartments and a roof-level amenity deck, to be served by 265 automobile parking spaces.  An existing 900-square-foot retail stall would also remain in place.

DFH Architects is designing the project, which would raise the total building height to approximately 100 feet.  A rendering portrays a contemporary look for the new construction, as well as a paint job for the existing garage - which was designed along with the adjoining office tower by the late Welton Becket.

The project near Wilshire/Western Station is the third parking garage that Jamison has looked to cap with retail.  Construction is already underway for similar developments adjoining office buildings at Wilshire Boulevard and Ardmore Avenue, and at Wilshire and Catalina Street.
