Last July, developer Rick Caruso gained city approvals to remake a three-acre section of Pacific Palisades with approximately 116,000 square feet of new shops and restaurants.  One year later, a quick walk by the property finds that excavation at the property is now complete and foundation work is underway.

The project site, bounded by Sunset Bulevard, Monument Street and Swarthmore Avenue, will feature a series of one- and two-story buildings designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects.  Plans call for tenants such as a specialty grocer, as well as significant outdoor seating wrapped around a new park.

A key aspect of the planned reactivation of the classic Bay Theatre, a Pacific Palisades landmark that shuttered in the late 1970s.  In June, it was announced that Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas had been tapped to operate the theatre, which includes five seating rooms and total seating for approximately 300 patrons.

Palisades Village, as the project is known, is expected to open by Summer 2018.
