Plans to bring affordable and permanent supportive housing to a vacant property in Florence-Firestone continue to move forward.

At its meeting on May 16, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to approve the issuance of approximately $21.6 million in tax-exempt bonds for the construction of a new development at 2111 Firestone Boulevard. Plans call for the construction of a six-story building which would feature 85 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, including 42 supportive housing units priced for households earning no more than 30 percent of the area median income level and 41 units reserved for individuals earning up to 50 percent.

Besides housing, a staff report indicates that the apartment complex will also house offices and meeting rooms for on-site services such as case management, life skills training, and workforce development. Plans also call for a lobby with three computers, a community room, a workout room, and two rooftop terraces.

A rendering included in a previous staff report to the Board of Supervisors portrays 2111 Firestone as a contemporary podium type-building.

The project applicant is an entity affiliated with Domus Development.

Other upcoming supportive and affordable housing developments in the unincorporated community include a proposed remake of the Florence Car Wash site at 7220 Maie Avenue, where Meta Housing Corp. is planning a six-story, 160-unit complex named The Metro @ Florence.
