A squat section of southern Echo Park is about to get a little bit taller.

Earlier this month, developer 1614 Temple, LLC filed plans with the City of Los Angeles to construct a new residential-retail complex near the southwest corner of Temple Street and Glendale Boulevard.  The project, slated for a .39-acre site at 1614-1626 Temple Street, would feature 55 apartments, 2,774 square feet of ground-floor retail space and parking accommodations for 63 automobiles and 65 bicycles.

The property is currently improved with surface parking and a pair of small commercial buildings.

According to a representative of CORBeL Architects, the $10-million development will include a terrace garden and affordable housing units.  A series of architectural renderings portray a six-story structure with pedestrian-oriented retail stalls fronting Temple Street.

Construction of 1614 Temple Street is expected to begin in March 2016.
