Rumblefish, a pedestrian bridge planned across the L.A. River, is expected to break ground in July 2018, according to an announcement by SPF:architects.

The 400-foot span would connect the Frogtown neighborhood to Taylor Yard, a 42-acre former railyard that is at the center of the L.A. River revitalization plan.  Though the project's official name is the Taylor Yard Bikeway & Pedestrian Bridge, SPF applied the moniker "Rumblefish" as an allusion to the 1983 film about rival gangs by Francis Ford Coppola.  The name references the surrounding area's own history with gang violence.

Its design is inspired by classic railway bridges and mid 20th century Los Angeles architecture, with a simple geometric design and light structural elements such as tube steel.  SPF designed the orange-colored structure to appear as if it floats across the river.

The City Council approved approximately $21.7 million in funds for the bridge in February, which is expected to open in the second half of 2020.
