Rose Hill Courts, a 1960s public housing complex in Montecito Heights, may be razed and rebuilt as a larger collection of affordable apartments.

Last month, the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles and developer Related Cos. gave a presentation to the LA-32 Neighborhood Council offering up a first look at their plans for the 5.25-acre site at 4446 Florizel Street.  According to the meeting's agenda, HACLA and Related have proposed redeveloping the property with 191 units of affordable housing, an increase from Rose Hill Court's existing 100 apartments.  Construction would occur in two phases, starting with a mid-rise building containing 94 units to house existing residents.  This would be followed the creation of 97 "affordable family units."

Proposed amenities include community space in the Phase 1 construction, as well as a standalone community center during the second phase.

Additional details about the project are currently unclear.

Related Cos., best known as the developer behind the Grand Avenue Project in Downtown Los Angeles, also has a large portfolio of affordable housing projects.
