After two years of construction, developer McCormick Baron Salazar is wrapping up work on the Santa Cecilia Apartments, an affordable housing complex located across the street from Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights.

The $32-million project features 80 apartments on its upper floors that are reserved for households making between 30 and 60 percent of the Los Angeles area median income.  Rents will range from $450 per month for studios to $1,200 per month for three-bedroom units, according to the California State Treasurer's Office.

DE Architects designed the low-rise structure, which is built into a hillside adjacent to the 101 Freeway.  The apartments greet the corner of 1st Street and Boyle Avenue with 4,000 square feet of commercial space, and provide a small parking lot along the south side of the property as a buffer between adjacent buildings.

Metro is currently seeking a development partner to pursue new construction on properties wrapping Mariachi Plaza and its underground Gold Line Station across the street.

A former CRA-owned site at the southeast corner of the intersection may also be in line for the development in the near-term future.
