A proposal to construct a senior affordable housing development just off Reseda Boulevard was approved today by the Los Angeles City Planning Commission.

Canby Woods West, a project from Thomas Safran & Associates, would rise from a currently vacant lot located at 7219-7227 N. Canby Avenue.  Plans call for a four-story building that would feature 26 dwelling units, 100 percent of which will be set aside for low- and very-low-income seniors.

William Hezmalhalch Architects is designing the low-rise structure, which would incorporate common amenities such as a laundry room, a fitness center, a courtyard, and a six-car garage.

A budget and timeline for the project are currently unclear.

Canby Woods West is part of a larger proposal in which Laemmle Theatres will revive the adjacent, and long-shuttered, Reseda Theater.
