Six months after clearing a property at 3rd Street and Mariposa Avenue in Koreatown, developer CGI Strategies has made it official: construction is underway for the company's latest development.

The project, known as the Mariposa, will feature 121 apartments - including 17 units of affordable housing - and 4,600 square feet of ground-floor retail space.  The seven-story brick and concrete building will offer a mix one- and two-bedroom apartments - ranging between 622 and 1,000 square feet - in addition to a rooftop pool deck, a fitness center, and a theater room.

Architect Warren Techentin designed the podium-type building.

Completion of the Mariposa is anticipated in Spring 2018.

CGI's pipeline of Koreatown developments currently consists of more than 500 residential units.

Crane Action at Hollywood's Thompson Hotel

11-story building sprouts between Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards.

Construction is now kicking into high-gear at Hollywood's slow-moving Thompson Hotel, with the arrival of a tower crane at 1523 Wilcox Avenue.

The project, which comes from Los Angeles-based developer Relevant Group, will consist of an 11-story building featuring 200 guest rooms, a rooftop pool deck, and multiple food-and-beverage venues.
