Four months after an official groundbreaking ceremony, the steel frame of a new pedestrian bridge spanning La Cienega Boulevard is starting to take shape.

The project, which will link the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook and Kenneth Hahn State Park, is the lynchpin of the 13-mile Park to Playa trail - a multi-use corridor running between Baldwin Hills and Playa del Rey.  The trail builds off of existing hiking trails and paths starting at Stocker Street in the east, and then joins the Marvin Braude Bike Path along Ballona Creek to create a path to the beach.

In addition to providing a crossing for pedestrians and cyclists, the new La Cienega Boulevard bridge will also be flanked with native landscaping, an amenity which caters to wildlife living in the two parks.

Construction of the 440-foot overpass requires three consecutive weekend closures of La Cienega between Stocker Street and Obama Boulevard, the first of which occurred between June 11 and June 14.  Additional closures are planned from June 19-22 and June 26-29.

The project is scheduled for completion in Fall 2020.
