A year after breaking ground in Warner Center, the frame of a new Home2Suites by Hilton hotel is starting to crest above street level.

The project, which replaced an office building at the intersection of Variel Avenue and Oxnard Street, will consist of a six-story building containing 174 guest rooms above ground-floor retail and a 136-car basement garage.

DLR Group is designing the contemporary low-rise structure, which will incorporate guest amenities such as a gym and a swimming pool, as well as meeting space.

The hotel is being built by FPG Development Group, a Florida-based company.

The hotel is one of several currently in the pipeline for Warner Center, including one planned as part of a mixed-use project at the site of Fry's Electronics at 6100 Canoga Avenue.

Several multifamily residential developments are currently planned or under construction nearby, including a $75-million apartment complex now rising one block north on Variel Avenue.
