The long-elusive Korean American National Museum is another step closer to reality, with $3 million in additional funds potentially on the way.

The project, slated for the southwest corner of 6th Street and Vermont Avenue, would consist of a seven-story mixed-use building featuring a two-story, 29,000-square foot museum in addition to 103 residential units.  Plans call for 12 units of very low income housing, as well as underground parking for 144 vehicles.

Gruen Associates is designing the proposed mid-rise structure, which would feature substantial open space through private balconies and terrace levels.

A motion from City Council President Herb Wesson calls for the approximatley $3.1 million in CRA/LA Excess Bond Proceeds to be used to assist with construction costs for KANM.  A full budget for the project has been previously estimated at $35 million.

Next-door, a property that currently houses a Denny's restaurant is slated for a mixed-use tower complex.
