Six-year-old plans for a housing development on the border between Montecito Heights and El Sereno are finally moving forward.

The proposed project - linked to a La Canada-based entity called Yalla Yalla, LLC - is slated for an undeveloped 4.3-acre site at 2730 Onyx Drive.  Plans call for the construction of 32 small lot homes.

The houses, designed by Corsini Stark Architects, would be carved into the hillside property to reduce their height profile.  Architectural plans show three-story structures with sloping rooflines and metal exteriors.

According to an initial study published by the City of Los Angeles, construction is anticipated to occur in six phases, starting in January 2021 and concluding by January 2023.

Required approvals from the City of Los Angeles include zone and height district changes.

The development site sits just west of Huntington Drive, where non-profit developer East L.A. Community Corporation broke ground last year on the Rosa de Castilla apartments, a $45-million affordable housing complex.
