Located on two Los Angeles County-owned parking lots at the intersection of Cesar E. Chavez Avenue and North Broadway, the project consists of five- and eight-story buildings featuring 355 residential units and 43,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. The mix of live/work, studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments will include 35 set aside as affordable housing.
Market-rate units at La Plaza will rent at rates between $1,925 and $5,075 per month, according to a leasing website.
Chinatown-based architecture firm Johnson Fain designed La Plaza Village, with landscape work by SWA Group. The colorful low-rise and mid-rise buildings will be bisected by a landscaped paseo, itself an extension of a historic pathway running between the Union Station area and the newly-restored Fort Moore Memorial on Hill Street.
One of the property's ground-floor tenants will be La Plaza Cocina, a 2,500 Mexican food museum.
