Mitsui Fudosan, already in the planning stages for a one high-rise development in Downtown Los Angeles, is now proposing a second tower in the Financial District.

Earlier today, the American arm of the Japanese conglomerate filed plans with the City of Los Angeles to construct a 40-story building across the street from the Whole Foods Market at 8th Street and Grand Avenue.  The project, which would also front Hope Streets, calls for a 467-foot building featuring 409 dwelling units above 7,329 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.  A six-level, 487 car garage would be included in the proposed development, replacing an existing parking structure and an adjoining surface lot.

The property sits along the booming 8th Street corridor, which has recently seen new towers at Spring, Olive and Hope Streets.

Mitsui Fudosan's other project - a similar 42-story development - is planned two blocks west at 8th and Figueroa Streets.
