Affordable housing could be built on a long-vacant lot in Van Nuys, according to plans submitted last week to the City of Los Angeles.

The proposed development, slated for a .603-acre lot at 14142-14154 Vanowen Street, calls for the construction of a multi-story building containing 64 apartments - includign 18 very low-income units, 45 low-income units, and one market rate manager's unit.

The Vanowen Street development is called "Confianza," according to a request for funding submitted earlier this year to the Los Angeles Housing and Community Investment Department.

Requested entitlements for the project include a density bonus incentive for increased height.  The development is also eligible for streamlined permitting in accordance with SB 35.

The project applicant is an entity affiliated with Skid Row Housing Trust (SRHT).  The Downtown-based non-profit developer previously built a similar 64-unit permanent supportive housing development at 13604 Sherman Way in Van Nuys.
