Yesterday, Trammell Crow Residential officially broke ground on the Alexan South Echo, a mixed-use development in Historic Filipintown, adjacent to Echo Park.

Located at 1910 W. Temple Street, the project will consist of a six-story structure featuring 200 market rate apartments above approximately 22,000 square feet of street-fronting commercial space and underground parking.

Plans call for a mixture of studio, one- and two-bedroom dwellings, with an average size of 898 square feet.  Individual units will come equipped with balconies, nine-foot ceilings, contemporary kitchens, baths and washer-dryer systems.

With rents between $1,700 and $3,900, the property will offer communal amenities including a resort-style pool, an event room, a fitness center and outdoor gathering spaces.

The 1.7-acre project site, currently vacant, was previously home to the L.A. Derby Dollas, a women's roller derby league.  In the more distance past, the property housed operations for the Norse Dairy System.  The property was originally entitled for development over ten years ago by Axiom Real Estate, whose plans were scuttled by the onset of the global economic recession.

The Alexan South Echo is being developed with investment from the Grand CHina Fund, Beijing Taihua Group, Fifth Third Bank and HFF.  Completion is expected in October 2018.

A second phase of the project will bring 47 units of affordable housing in a separate building.
