The Community Corporation of Santa Monica has completed construction of The Arroyo, a new affordable housing development near the Expo Line in Downtown Santa Monica.

Located at 1626 Lincoln Boulevard, the project consists of a five-story building featuring 64 apartments - including one-, two-, and three-bedroom units.  Community Corp. will also provide on-site services for residents such as after-school programming, health and wellness classes, and computer skills training.

"We are thrilled to bring this beautifully designed, environmentally sustainable affordable property to the heart of Downtown Santa Monica.  The Arroyo will add to Santa Monica's affordable housing stock, making the city a more inclusive and vibrant place for everyone to live," said Tara Barauskas, Executive Director of Community Corp.

Santa Monica-based architecture firm Koning Eizenberg designed the podium-type structure to LEED Gold specifications, incorporating solar panels and drought-tolerant landscaping into the project.

Financing for The Arroyo was provided in part by the developers of a market-rate apartment complex set to rise a few blocks away at 500 Broadway.

Several market-rate developments are either planned or under construction surrounding The Arroyo, which is located within walking distance of the Expo Line's Downtown Santa Monica terminus.  Additionally, another affordable apartment building is planned a short distance north at 711 Colorado Avenue.
