One month after securing a $51-million construction loan, PNK Group Investments has broken ground on a new Cambria Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.
The Cambria Hotel Los Angeles - Spring Street will occupy a 1920s building that began its life as a parking garage, and later served as the office of the Los Angeles Police Department's Vice Squad. The 13-story structure, located at 419 S. Spring Street, will feature 180 guest rooms with restaurant space, meeting facilities, and a fitness center.
"Downtown Los Angeles has experienced major revitalization in the past decade, making Spring Street an ideal location to meet the renewed interest in the growing area. Choice is committed to expanding the Cambria Hotels brand throughout L.A. and this hotel joins the already open Cambria Hotel LAX, with several other new construction hotels in development in Anaheim, Burbank, and Calabasas," said Janis Cannon, a senior vice president of Choice Hotels.
The project, which is being designed by Nadel Architects, is on pace to open in 2020.
The Cambria is one of a handful of new developments under construction along Spring Street, including the adaptive reuse of the historic H.W. Hellman Building as apartments, the renovation of the Trust Building, and the 34-story Perla on Broadway condo tower. The coming years may also bring an 11-story CitizenM hotel, which would rise at the northwest corner of Spring and 4th Street.
Another Cambria hotel is also planned at the corner of Georgia Street and James M. Wood Boulevard near L.A. Live.
