Weeks after suddenly finding himself at the heart of a controversy over political dontions to city officials, developer Rick Caruso has agreed to downsize his proposed high-rise development in Beverly Grove.
In an agreement coordinated by Councilmember Paul Koretz, the proposed tower at 333 La Cienega Boulevard will move forward as an approximately 185-foot building, in lieu of the larger 240-foot edifice that was originally planned. The Grove developer also agreed to provide an additional $500,000 to fund affordable housing within the Fifth Council District.
It is unclear how the revised plan will also trim the number of total apartments within the building - previously stated as 145 - or the amount of ground-floor commercial space. However, the agreement does stipulate that the project will still set aside 10% of its units as low-income housing and maintain a public beneifts package that includes new green space and bike lanes surrounding the development site.
The Gensler-designed project will also adhere to previously stated plans to achieve LEED-Silver certification and offset 100 percent of all carbon emissions that it generates.
The Caruso website advertises a completion date in 2020.
