A tower crane is now in place at 1101 N. Main Street, site of a new multifamily residential development from High Street Residential.

The project, which broke ground just east of Los Angeles State Historic Park five months ago, will consist of a seven-story building featuring 318 apartments and a 526-car garage.

KFA Architecture is designing the contemporary podium-type structure, which will provide a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom units in addition to amenities such as a swimming pool, a community room, and a gym.

Construction was expected to take approximately two years at the time of the project's groundbreaking.

The construction site abuts a large vacant lot where developer Atlas Capital obtained entitlements earlier this year for a 725-unit apartment complex known as College Station.

The 1101 N. Main Street development is the second for High Street Residential in the Chinatown area.  The developer, a subsidiary of Trammell Crow Company, recently completed the 355-unit LA Plaza Village apartments near Olvera Street.
