In January, Cal State L.A.broke ground on an immense structure that will serve as the university's first traditional-style student housing.
The Student Housing East project, which replaces a surface parking lot along the east side of campus adjacent to the 710 Freeway, will consist of an eight-story building containing 1,500 beds for freshmen and sophomore students, as well as a dining commons and a learning center.
The L-shaped structure, designed by Harley Ellis Devereaux, will wrap around a central garden. The new construction is rising just east of an existing student apartment complex.
The parking lot replaced by the student housing is being replaced on the west side of the Cal State L.A. campus with a four-story, 1,650-car garage.
Completion of the Student Housing East project is anticipated by Fall 2021.
