Construction has gone vertical for the Alexan South Echo, a new development by Trammell Crow Residential in Historic Filipinotown.

Located at 1910 W. Temple Street, the project will consist of a six-story edifice featuring 200 market rate apartments and 22,000 square feet of street-floor commercial space.  Plans call for a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom dwellings averaging 898 square feet in size.

Rents in the building will be set between $1,700 and $3,900 per month, according to a project website.

The contemporary podium-type structure is being designed by the West L.A.-based firm SCALA.

A second phase of the project will consist of 47 affordable housing units in a separate building.

The wood-and-concrete frame of a small mixed-use development near The Grove is now complete. The four-story development, which comes from local real estate firm Conroy Commercial, replaces an auto body repair shop at 1st Street and Fairfax Avenue.  City records indicate the building will feature 45 residential units atop 1,258 square feet of ground-floor commercial space above a basement parking garage. Ovalle Architects, a Long Beach-based firm, designed the contemporary low-rise structure.
