A proposal which would have replaced a post office in North Hollywood with housing and commercial uses is going on hold - permanently.

Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Department of City Planning terminated the pending general plan amendment and zone change application associated with a project from Jacmar Cos. at 7035 N. Laurel Canyon Boulevard. A representative of the project had contacted the Department to request an indefinite hold on the project in January.

The now-cancelled project, submitted to the City of Los Angeles in 2022, had called for the construction of a six-story building which would have featured 243 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments atop 5,100 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and parking for 413 vehicles.

Jacmar would have been required to set aside 40 apartments as affordable housing priced for very low- and extremely low-income households, should the project have been built.

While the termination letter from the Planning Department puts an end to plans for the North Hollywood site, Jacmar still maintains active approvals for a proposed 120-unit apartment complex with retail at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Fairfax in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood.

Other large projects that have recently fallen through short of receiving entitlements include a redwood-inspired hotel and residential tower complex in Downtown Los Angeles.
