A pair of tower cranes soars high above the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Olive Drive in West Hollywood, as the $240-million Pendry Hotel and Residences begins to take shape.

The project, a joint venture between AECOM Capital and Combined Properties, will consist of two mid-rise buildings containing 149 hotel rooms, 40 condominiums, 25,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and basement parking for up to 410 vehicles.

EYRC Architects and Cuningham Group are designing the project, which responds to a grade change across the property with stepped building heights to create terrace decks.

The Pendry, which replaced the Sunset Boulevard outpost of the House of Blues nightclub chain, is scheduled for completion in 2020.

A similar development featuring a hotel and branded condominiums is now under construction at Sunset Boulevard and Doheny Drive.
