Earth movers are currently excavating the underground parking levels for the project, which will rise at the northwest corner of Echo Park Avenue and Grafton Street.  Plans call for a three-story edifice that will contain 35 studio apartments, 2,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and parking for 40 vehicles.

The 21,000-square-foot development is being designed by KFA Architecture.  A rendering depicts a contemporary low-rise structure clad with brick and accented with wood.

MWest cleared the development site - previously improved with an office building - in late 2018.

The Sherman Oaks-based developer owns a number of historic properties throughout the Los Angeles area, in addition to assets in New York.
