In the unincorporated community of Willowbrook, developer LINC Housing Corp. is wrapping up construction at the Springhaven apartments.

The project, which replaced a surface parking lot at the southwest corner of Wilmington Avenue and 118th Street, consists of a six-story building featuring 100 units of affordable and permanent supportive housing.

“While the County has moved at an unprecedented rate to bring vulnerable individuals experiencing homelessness indoors during the COVID-19 pandemic, often into interim shelter or motels, we must keep our eyes on the prize – which is always long-term, affordable housing with services available to help residents thrive,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas in prepared remarks.

The project will be split evenly between general purpose affordable housing and permanent supportive housing for families and persons who have experienced homelessness.  Plans call for on-site case management services for residents, as well as a ground-floor childcare with capacity for 88 children.

Rents for the general purpose affordable housing - which will come in a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans - will be set at levels considered affordable for households earning 60 percent or less than the area median income.

The building, which is designed by D33 Design & Planning, will include an exercise room, garden program, computer lab, and a community kitchen.

The Springhaven development is scheduled to open for move-ins by the end of 2020.

The project site is located directly across 118th Street from The Gateway, a similar affordable housing complex built by Thomas Safran & Associates.
