A presentation posted by the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council offers a first look at Mercy Housing of California's proposed supportive housing development at 6th and San Julian Streets.
The project, called 6th Street Place, would rise at the northeast corner of the intersection. A three-story light industrial building - best known as the site of the "Skid Row City Limits" mural - would be replaced with a six-story edifice featuring:
- 93 residential units priced for low- and very-low-income households;
- one manager's apartments; and
- 1,800 square feet of ground-floor commercial uses.
Other project components include a 13-car parking lot, a community room, a landscaped outdoor courtyard, and on-site supportive services provided by The People Concern.
A rendering depicts 6th Street Place contemporary low-rise structure. Exterior finishes would largely consist of plaster with some tile veneer at street level.
Mercy Housing is seeking entitlements for 6th Street Place with streamlined permitting via SB 35.
The State of California awarded $14.58 million for the project's construction earlier this year, contributing to a total budget of approximately $54 million.
