A rendering has emerged for 5420 Sunset Boulevard, a new mixed-use development planned directly across the street from Hollywood's infamous Target Husk.

The nearly seven-acre project site, located at the southeast corner of Sunset and Western Avenue, is currently improved with a shopping center anchored by Food 4 Less Market.  Owner American Commercial Equities filed plans with the City of Los Angeles in March to construct 735 apartments across the property, in addition to 96,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and parking for 1,400 vehicles.

Santa Monica-based VTBS Architects is designing the proposed development, which is portrayed as four contemporay podium-type buildings rising to a maximum of 75 feet in height.  A site plan shows that an approximately 60,000-square-foot super market is planned within the complex, replacing the existing Food 4 Less.  A pedestrian paseo woudl east-to-west across the property, breaking up the large development site.

Construction of 5420 Sunset would occur over approximately 28 months, with completion as early as 2021 per the project's initial study.

Two similar residential-retail complexes are already planned or underway near the intersection of Sunset and Western, including the adjacent Deluxe Hollywood development and the SunWest project across the street.

Small Apartment Building Slated for Crescent Heights Boulevard

Three-story, 12-unit building would rise on two parcels.

Last week, the City of West Hollywood's Design Review Subcommittee considered a proposal to construct a small apartment building on two parcels at 1011 and 1015 N. Crescent Heights Boulevard.

The project, which is being designed by Culver City-based architecture firm Modative, calls for the construction of a three-story, 12-unit building featuring 20 parking spaces.  Plans call for a mix of one- and two-bedroom dwellings, including one unit of affordable housing.
