This Thursday, the Long Beach Planning Commission will consider a proposal from Ensemble Real Estate Services to construct a mixed-use development on a current parking lot adjacent to the George Deukmejian Courthouse at Magnolia Avenue and Broadway.

The project, slated for a 33,000-square-foot parking lot at 500 W. Broadway, would consist of a seven-story building featuring 142 residential units above ground-floor retail and restaurant space.

Los Angeles-based Urban Architecture Lab is designing the podium-type development, utilizing alternating materials and offset floors to give the building texture.  Renderings also portray a rooftop pool deck at the southeast corner of the property, offering views toward the waterfront.

Per the agenda for this Thursday's meetings, staff have recommended that that the Commission approve the project.

Broadway and Magnolia is one of a handful of ground-up projects that Ensemble has in the works for Downtown Long Beach, including two residential-retail developments now rising near the waterfront.
