Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation has filed plans with the City of Los Angeles to construct a senior affordable development in Mid-City.
The project, which was first previewed by the Mid-City Neighborhood Council in December 2018, calls for replacing a vacant lot at Pico and Crenshaw Boulevards with a five-story building featuring 54 residential units. Plans call for a mix of low- and very low-income units, as well as one manager's apartments.
The entity used as the project applicant is called Amani Apartments LP. A rendering depicts a contemporary low-rise structure.
Wakeland is seeking streamlined permitting for the project via the framework approved by SB 35. The legislation allows ministerial approvals for projects with a minimum 50 percent affordable component, and is also being employed by Wakeland at its proposed Chesterfield Apartments in South Los Angeles.
The Amani project's entitlement application indicates that it receive consideration by the Los Angeles City Planning Commission.
