Just west of the Glendale Galleria, a pair of vacant single-family residences could give way to a mixed-income apartment building.

The project site, located at 401-409 Hawthorne Street, is slated for the construction of a five-story, 23-unit multifamily residential building.  Plans also call for retaining two existing units on the site, for a total of 25 apartments.

The project is seeking entitlements with a density bonus, for which five of the apartments would be set aside for low-income tenants.  Other project components include a planned 39-car garage on two subterranean levels.

Montrose-based architecture firm Malekian & Associates is both listed as the project's designer and applicant.  Renderings show a contemporary low-rise structure.

The City of Glendale is currently circulating a proposed mitigated negative declaration for the project.  A timeline has not been published.
