Paragon Commercial Group has completed construction of a grocery-anchored shopping center at the corner of Sepulveda Boulevard and 8th Street in Manhattan Beach.

The project, called Gelson's Shopping Plaza, is named for its key tenant: a Gelson's supermarket - the first full-sized grocery store west of Sepulveda Boulevard in Manhattan Beach.  Gelson's is housed in a 27,900-square-foot building, which was repurposed from its original use as a collision repair center.  Paragon has also built a separate 7,000-square-foot building that will house a First Republic Bank branch.  The Gelson's is expected to open on November 14, with the bank to follow shortly thereafter.

“We’re excited to offer the first new grocery store in Manhattan Beach in decades,” said Paragon Principal Jim Dillavou. “We are grateful for all of the community support and to the City Council for their recognition that an adaptive reuse project such as this can simultaneously beautify the neighborhood as well provide an important neighborhood-serving use.”

DLR Group designed the shopping center with a wood aesthetic accented by a green vegetation wall.  The project was built out over a period of approximately 10 months by Savant Construction, Inc.
