A brick commercial building in Hollywood has bit the dust, as Oxford Capital Group prepares to start construction on a new Godfrey Hotel just south of Sunset Boulevard.

The property, located at 1400 N. Cahuenga Boulevard, is slated for a seven-story building that will feature approximately 200 guest rooms with restaurant space and a rooftop pool deck.

The Los Angeles office of Steinberg Architects is designing the project, with interior work from the Chicago-based Gettys Group.  Renderings portray a contemporary mid-rise structure wrapped around an interior courtyard.

The Hollywood Godfrey is brand's third location, following Chicago and Boston.

Relevant Group originally entitled the property for development as a Tommie Hotel, prior to selling the land to Oxford Capital for approximately $16.5 million.

Construction is already underway for a residential-retail complex immediately south along Cahuenga Boulevard, while a 28-story tower is expected to replace Amoeba Records next-door.
