South Block, the multi-building residential-retail complex now taking shape across the street from the iconic Pantages Theatre, has been rebranded as El Centro on Hollywood.

The project, budgeted at an estimated $200-million, comes from partners DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners and Clarett West.  Its four seven-story buildings, which replaced a surface parking lot, will offer 507 apartments and approximately 60,000 square feet of street-level retail space.

According to a project website, El Centro offers a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, as well as loft, penthouse, and bungalow-style units.  Leasing for the project is set to begin in Summer 2018.

VTBS Architects designed the project, which features buildings of alternating colors - a departure from El Centro's fraternal twin: the Eastown apartments across the street.

Commune Design is designing the project's interiors and common areas, which will include high-ceilings and large windows.  Common space amenities within the project will include a swimming pool, a fitness center, and a spa.

El Centro is located one block south of Argyle House, an 18-story apartment tower that recently opened its doors next to the Capitol Records Building.
