This Saturday, the City of Irvine will hold a grand opening for the first phase of the Orange County Great Park's Sports Park.

The 53-acre expanse includes:

  • A 2,500-seat soccer stadium with locker rooms, training facillities, a box office and concession areas.
  • Six 120-yard by 75-yard soccer fields
  • A tennis complex with 25 courts, a pro shop, a concession area and seating for 140 spectators.
  • Five sand volleyball courts with seating for 164 spectators.
  • A children's play area with slides, swings, jungle gyms and climbing areas.

The new green space is the first phase of what will eventually expand to a 194-acre sports park.  A full buildout of the Great Park will eventually result in more than 1,300 acres of public open space.

A large community of private residential developments, office campuses and a commuter rail station all flank the park.

Data Center Planned for Parking Lot Near Union Station Terminal Annex

Transit-oriented data center?

A large parking lot next door to the Union Station Terminal Annex Building is slated for development as a data center. CoreSite Realty Corp., a Denver-based owner and operator of data centers across the country, is behind the proposed development, which would raze the parking lot at 900 N. Alameda Street for the construction of a four-story, 93-foot-tall data center with nearly 180,000 square feet of floor area.
