Healthcare giant Kaiser Permanente is planning a major expansion of its mental health center overlooking Chinatown.

Yesterday, the Oakland-based nonprofit filed plans with the City of Los Angeles for a two-phase development that would add new buildings to its two-acre campus at Figueroa Terrance and College Street.

Phase one of the project is described as a ground-up four-story, 100,000-square-foot specialty medical center, combined with and a six-story parking garage.

A second phase of the project would expand upon the parking garage, as well as the existing Kaiser facility.

Additional details about the project are currently unclear.
