At its meeting last week, the Los Angeles City Planning Commission voted to approve three developments which would bring more than 200 units of affordable and permanent supportive housing to North Hollywood, Van Nuys, and Venice.
The first project, a joint venture between the Decro Corporation and Daylight Community Development, would replace two triplexes at 5050 N. Bakman Avenue with a five-story edifice containing seven units of low-income housing, 32 units of very low-income supportive housing, and one manager's apartment. Plans also call for four parking spaces.
FSY Architects is designing the Bakman Avenue development, which would include a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom dwellings as well as a community room and social services offices.
The second, called Confianza, is being developed by Skid Row Housing Trust. Plans call for the construction of multiple three- and four-story buildings on a currently-vacant lot at 14142-14154 W. Vanowen Street featuring 64 apartments which would be priced for low- and very low-income households.
The Gensler-designed project would have a U-shaped footprint, wrapping around a rear-facing courtyard.
The final development, slated for a City-owned property at 3233 S. Thatcher Avenue in Venice, is being developed by Thomas Safran & Associates. The proposed project would include a mix of low-rise buildings containing 98 apartments.
Construction is currently on pace to begin in the third quarter of 2020, with completion expected by the second quarter of 2022.
