Starting this month, Longbeachize will host Emphasize, the first in a free series of talks exploring issues such as homelessness and gentrification.

On Thursday, November 16 at 6:30 pm at the Edison Theatre (213 E. Broadway in Downtown Long Beach), Jeff Tumlin of Nelson/Nygaard will discuss his role in the creation of Oakland's Department of Transit, as well as how transit equity can benefit Long Beach.  He will be joined by joined by Jason Islas, editor of Santa Monica Next.

The second talk, scheduled for Monday, December 11 at the Art Theatre (2025 E. 4th Street in Long Beach) will see UCLA professor Michael Lens will join with Long Beach's Jan Van Dijs to discuss California's housing crisis, as well as how development shapes where housing goes and who it serves.
