Protective barriers now encircle a 2.7-acre site at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, signaling the start of work for West Hollywood's Melrose Triangle development.

The project, captured in photos by real estate agent Blake Alexander, will consist of a four-story building featuring 76 apartments - with 20 percent of all units set aside for moderate- and low-income households - with 137,000 square feet of office space and 82,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

Charles Company, a West Hollywood-based real estate firm, is behind the Melrose Triangle development.

Construction is expected to occur over approximately two years.
