The proposed development, slated to replace a parking lot at 5891 Olympic Boulevard, would consist of a six-story edifice featuring 46 one- and two-bedroom apartments - including five extremely low-income affordable units - above parking for 49 vehicles.
The project applicant, an entity connected to Beverly Hills-based Modern Living Development Corp, tapped Sam Ghanouni to design the contemporary low-rise structure, which would be buffered from adjacent buildings by a proposed duplex along the northern property line.
Modern Living received entitlements for the project in November 2019.
An appeal of those approvals was filed shortly thereafter by Michele Yoffe, who identifies herself as one of the owners of an adjacent apartment building at 947-953 Alandele Avenue.
The owners of the two-story building on Alandele contend that construction of a larger development on Olympic would negatively impact the value of their property by disturbing tenants during construction and reducing the amount of available street parking in the surrounding neighborhood.
Commissioners voted unanimously to reject the appeal.
The project at 5891 Olympic is not the only housing development slated for the surrounding neighborhood. Two blocks west at the intersection of Olympic and San Vicente Boulevard, Wiseman Residential is planning to redevelop three small commercial buildings with apartments and ground-floor retail.
