Plans for a small mixed-use development near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Alvarado Street have finally come to fruition.

An image sent by photographer Michael Hayes shows that construction is now underway for a podium-type building on a formerly vacant lot at 2014 Sunset Boulevard.  Permit filings with the Department of Building and Safety describe a four-story edifice, featuring 36 apartments above street-fronting commercial space.

The identity of the project's architect is unclear.

Two blocks west, a 13-unit apartment building is planned across the street from Echo Park Lake.
