Less than one month after announcing plans to redevelop the site of Echo Park's Taix restaurant with multifamily housing and retail space, a filing with the Los Angeles Department of City Planning indicates that another apartment building could rise across the street.

The property, currently an overflow parking lot for Taix patrons, is located at the northwest corner of Reservoir and Liberty Streets.  An environmental assessment form recently submitted to the Planning Department states that Holland Partner Group, the real estate firm that now owns the property, is seeking redevelop it with a 49-unit apartment complex.

Although additional details are not made explicit in a project description, the property's zoning would limit new construction to six stories in height without additional incentives.

Vancouver, Washington-based Holland Partner Group has developed numerous housing projects in the Los Angeles area, including mixed-use structures now rising in San Pedro and Long Beach.  The company's plans for Taix - a 170-unit complex which would include a new space for the restaurant - were met with less than stellar reviews from food reporters, preservationists, and well...really just about everyone.

The family which owns and operates the restaurant sold the property to Holland Partner Group in 2019 for approximately $12 million.  At the time, owner Michael Taix told the Los Angeles Times that the existing building is underutilized as profits have declined steadily in the past decade.
