West L.A.'s recent string of new apartment buildings on Santa Monica Boulevard continues.

Yesterday, plans were filed with the City of Los Angeles to construct a multifamily residential development at 11857-11861 Santa Monica Boulevard.  The project, which would replace a parking lot and a small commercial building, calls for the construction of a five-story structure featuring 52 residential units - including five to be set aside for very-low-income households.

The project site is owned by an entity called BHPO22, LLC.

The new proposal is the second attempt to develop the property at 11857 Santa Monica.  In 2005, Wertz Realty Investment received approvals to construct a four-story, 28-unit development with ground-floor retail at the site.

Recent years have brought a string of eye-catching mixed-use projects to the surrounding stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard, most notably a LOHA-designed development across the street.
