Construction is underway for a multifamily residential development a few blocks south of the Crenshaw/LAX Line's future Hyde Park Station.

The project, which comes from local real estate firm Haroni Investments, replaces a trio of one-story structures at 6111 Crenshaw Boulevard with a five-story apartment building featuring 75 residential units above 33 at-grade parking spaces.  Plans call for almost exclusively one-bedroom dwellings, of which nine would be set aside as affordable housing at the very-low-income level.

John Kaliski Architects is designing the podium-type building, which will be clad with stone veneer at street level and with stucco on its upper floors. The project will incorporate an open-to-the-sky courtyard at its ground level, and a second courtyard featuring seating and landscaping.

Haroni and Kaliski are currently wrapping up work on a similar five-story apartment building located a short distance south on Hyde Park Boulevard.
